Copperweld Stingray: Covered Wire for Pole-top Transformers

November 1, 2022

In January of 2022, Copperweld launched its line of jacketed Copper-Clad Steel (CCS) power conductors for use in pole-mounted transformer applications.

Some customers tend to use a bare copper wire, but bare wires are susceptible to faults resulting from animal and vegetation contact.

Copperweld Stingray is an easy-to install, jacketed CCS high-voltage cable designed for use between primary-phase conductors and equipment bushings. Its jacketed construction avoids many contact-related faults, and its 7-strand CCS configurations maintain optimal strength and flexibility.

Stingray is offered in three sizes per maximum ampacity:

  • Stingray 135 (135 Amps)
  • Stingray 195 (195 Amps)
  • Stingray 245 (245 Amps)

Easier to use

Compared to other jacketed conductors made for the same application, Stingray's thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) jacket is easier to strip and holds its shape when connecting to the transformer. A ring-cut with a twisting pull removes the cable cover and keeps the conductor intact — no need to whittle-off and damage the conductor in the process.

The following video shows best practices for effectively and efficiently stripping Copperweld Stingray:
